Just days after posting, she noticed comments pouring in, all addressing the same thing- a prominent birthmark on her right cheek. Some were supportive, while others were just plain mean, associating the mark with domestic abuse. Because of the amount of curiosity, she decided to repost the images, but this time with an added explanation.
Her new album is now titled "My birthmark + heterochromia (explained)," and has been viewed over 100,000 times. Heterochromia is a condition where people are born with more than one eye color, and while Lexxie thought to also include this difference, she knew people were mostly curious about her birthmark. She explained in a caption under the thread of photos that "people do mistake it for a bruise." Lexxie also went on to say that she's "absolutely not self-conscious about it at all," and that is has grown on her (literally and figuratively) over the years.
She was, however, offended when ABC News had approached her to star on two shows: The Undateables and Too Ugly For Love? Is that offensive or is it offensive?! (She obviously turned it down, thank heavens.) The biggest point she drove was that she can understand why people in similar situations would WANT to cover it up and why people have questions.
"I like to show it off to raise awareness."
It's great to see that Lexxie is embracing her natural beauty, even with people constantly judging her or having an opinion about her, whether they communicate that with her or not.
It's not everyday that a selfie can raise awareness, am I right?
xoxo, Kaila

ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteI think she´s so pretty and really brave to show the world who she is and not sitting in her room, ashamed of herself. That´s really impressive
ReplyDeleteWhat a strong young person who is standing up for herself and illustrating confidence in the face of those who would want to tear her down for others to make a mockery of.
