- Getting dressed up and going with friends
- Staying in to watch a good movie and eat popcorn with the girls
- WINNING HOMECOMING QUEEN AND BE A PRINCESS FOR A NIGHT
I think we can tell what the most exciting choice is (if you ask me)...
Lucky winner Kate Veldink, a student at Jenison High School in Jenison, Michigan, was award option number three- crowned homecoming queen. Now you might be thinking so what there is always a homecoming queen I won it like two years in a row.
Well there is one thing that makes Kate so special- she is wheelchair bound. Kate, 17, has spent her life battling a rare neurodegenerative disorder called ataxia telangiectasia (A-T for short), which impairs her movement, coordination, immune system, and DNA function. She typically uses a wheelchair, but proudly accepted her crown by walking up to the podium with a little help from the homecoming king.
Kate was certainly able to look the park of a beaming queen when she won on October 2nd, dressed in a burgundy pleated gown, glittering tiara, and a sash while she held a bouquet of roses.
"I was shocked," she told FOX 17. "I think my mouth dropped."
***FYI: She definitely shouldn't have been so shocked because she looked and is stunning!!***
"She brings humor to even the darkest times, and I think Kate is one of the best people out there, she absolutely deserves homecoming queen," said Maddy Maurice, Kate's friend from the lovely photo above.
After graduation, she plans on heading to Hope College, where is sister Abby is also a student, to study early childhood education. She also plans on participating in the Ready for Life program, where she'll learn daily living skills. Good for you girl!
Do you think you could be as strong as Kate is?
